Stephan A. Zwahlen (b. 1978) has been Chief Executive Officer of Maerki Baumann & Co. Ltd. since 2016. He joined the private bank’s Executive Board as Head of Investment Solutions & Services in 2009 and took over the additional role of deputy CEO from 2010. In his previous position, Stephan Zwahlen worked at UBS Global Wealth Management in the area of international mandate business. From 2005 to 2007 he was employed at Maerki Baumann & Co. Ltd. for the first time, where he was Head of Corporate Development, responsible for the strategic repositioning of the bank and the founding of Switzerland’s first independent transaction bank. Stephan Zwahlen studied and obtained a doctorate in Business Administration with a specialisation in banking and finance at the University of St. Gallen and the Richard Ivey School of Business (London, Ontario).
Stephan Zwahlen has supported the interests of the Swiss financial centre for many years as an active board member of the Zurich Banking Association and as a board member of the Association of Swiss Asset and Wealth Management Banks. He has been member of the Small Bank Expert Panel of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, board member of the Supporters’ Association of the Swiss FDP/The Liberals and board member of the Readers’ Council of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. As a lecturer in banking, Chairman of the Supporters’ Association and member of the Managing Committee of the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance at the University of St. Gallen, he also remains closely in touch with academic research.
Stephan Zwahlen is married and has a daughter. As well as spending time with his family, he enjoys travelling, golf, skiing and modern art.
